Sylvia Jeffreys confirms she’s also leaving the Today Show

Much-loved breakfast newsreader Sylvia Jeffreys has confirmed she will not be returning to the Today Show in 2019.

The 32-year-old announced the news in an emotional statement on Sunday, thanking viewers for inviting her into their homes each day.

“I’ve loved and embraced every minute of my TODAY show chapter and feel humbled to have worked with so many passionate people – hosts, studio crew, cameramen and producers who have become my great mates,” Jeffreys said in a statement.

“There are few shows that are fortunate to have such an engaged audience, and I thank our viewers for inviting me into their homes day after day.”

Sylvia said she will remain with Nine and continue to work on another exciting project.

“I’m thrilled to sink my teeth into a brand new project. Opportunity often knocks when you least expect it and I’m ready to dive right in to what’s ahead of me,” she said.

Nine’s director of news and current affairs Darren Wick thanked Sylvia for all of her hard work on the show.

“Sylvia is one of Nine’s hardest-working, most talented and passionate journalists,” Mr Wick said in a statement.

“After a humble start as a junior in our Brisbane newsroom many years ago, her tireless work ethic propelled her through the reporting ranks to become the national face of 9News with the TODAY show.

“Sylvia has done a great job on TODAY, and while the team there will miss her, she’s about to embark on an exciting new challenge. Watch this space in 2019.”

It comes after Sylvia’s husband, journalist Peter Stefanovic, confirmed he will be leaving the Nine network.

Co-host Karl Stefanovic and entertainment reporter Richard Wilkins will also not be returning to the breakfast program in 2019.

All good things must come to an end. Thanks Sylvia for your time on Today you brighten my day. Looking forward to your next project.
Mornings won’t be the same. ?

Will never be watching Channel 9 today show again over to Channel 7.
Not the same without Sylvia she made the show. Georgia hasn’t got much personality.

The Today show has lost me..I will either watch 7 or nothing at all 9 expects viewer loyalty but they don’t show a similar character to their employees. Perhaps the new lineup will be better but I won’t see. I think Richard Wilkinson is the best movie critic around – his assessments have proven reliable and will be missed as will his colleagues.

Dont know why Sylvia and Richard need to go.

Dont know why Tim Gilbert needs to leave either
