EARLIER: Family and friends of murdered Gold Coast mother Tara Brown have gathered outside Southport court this morning ahead of her accused killers court case.

Lionel Patea, 24, is due to appear in court this morning, charged with the horrific murder of his ex-partner Tara Brown, as well as the murder of Gold Coast father Greg Dufty.

Patea was arrested and charged with the brutal murder of Ms Brown in September, after he rammed the 24-year-olds car off a Molendinar road, beating her while she lay trapped inside.

While in custody, Patea was also charged with the murder of Gold Coast man Greg Dufty, with police alleging the murder was a result of a ‘drug debt gone wrong’.

Mr Dufty, 37, was last seen leaving his ex-partner’s home before his rented Mazda ute was found abandoned in the car park of nearby Ashmore Steak and Seafood Restaurant in July.

Aaron Crawford, 27, is also due to appear in court today over the murder of Mr Dufty.

He was extradited to Australia from New Zealand on November 3.
