Taxi driver charged following alleged wild rampage in Surfers

A Gold Coast taxi driver has been arrested, after allegedly pulling a knife on a passenger before doing a hit-n-run on a pedestrian in Surfers Paradise.

This morning just before 1.30am a member of the public alerted police after allegedly photographing and spotting a taxi driver pull a knife on a passenger during a dispute.

Police then worked with the city’s camera network to track the taxi via CCTV, where they spotted it intentionally hit a pedestrian on Cavil Avenue.

The pedestrian was knocked to the ground, however, luckily escaped serious injury.

Superintendent Geoff Sheldon told the ABC they thankfully caught up with the driver.

“The taxi kept going and pulled up at Main Beach just parked on the side of the road,” Superintendent Sheldon says.

“We were able to catch up with him and a 35-year-old-male taxi driver has been charged.”

He faces charges including dangerous driving and going armed so as to cause fear.
