Taxi driver charged following fatal hit and run

A man has been charged after a fatal hit-and-run incident in Crows Nest yesterday.

About 11.20am (Tuesday 18 August 2015), emergency services were called to the Pacific Highway, near the intersection of Rocklands Road, following reports an elderly woman had been hit by a car.

The 94-year-old woman was attempting the cross the road, when she was struck by a taxi.

She was treated at by NSW Ambulance Paramedics, however died at the scene.

The driver of the taxi allegedly failed to stop following the crash.

A crime scene was established and investigations commenced.

Following inquiries, officers attached to the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit arrested a 51-year-old man in O’Riordan Street, Alexandria, about 7pm yesterday.

The man, from South Granville, was taken to Redfern Police Station where he was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, fail to stop and assist after vehicle impact causing death, and negligent driving occasioning death.

He has been refused bail, to appear at Central Local Court today (Wednesday 19 August 2015).
