Wanted man arrested after trying to flee scene of Southport crash

A young man has been arrested after allegedly trying to flee the scene of a multi-vehicle crash in Southport.

Emergency services were called to the two car prang at the intersection of Ferry Road and Minnie Street just before 11.30am.

It’s understood a Holden Commodore sedan collided with a black SUV in the southbound lanes.

The driver of the Commodore, believed to be a man aged in his late teens or early 20s, allegedly tried to flee the scene.

According to reports, the man was wanted by police for a string of recent break and enters.

He was taken into custody at the scene and placed into the back of a police vehicle.

The incident caused lengthy delays for motorists travelling south through the area.

Traffic was built-up back to the Audi Centre on High Street until the wreckage was cleared.

Investigations are ongoing.
