Teen charged over series of violent car thefts

POLICE have charged a man over a series of violent rcar robberies in Browns Plains and Eight Mile Plains on Saturday night.

Around 6.30pm, a 26-year-old woman left her vehicle in the rear car park of a Browns Plains licensed hotel on Browns Plains Road and was allegedly approached by a man who threatened her with a knife and demanded her keys.

She complied, and the man drove off in her car.


Then, around 9pm in the car park of a licensed premises on the corner of Logan Road and Gaskell Street at Eight Mile Plains, a man approached a 32-year-old Coopers Plains woman and allegedly threatened her with a knife and demanded her keys and hand bag.

The woman did not comply, and called out for assistance to nearby security officers who came to her aid.

A short time later, a 22-year-old Rochedale South woman noticed a car stopped in the middle of the Underwood Road overpass.

She exited the vehicle and as she approached it, was threatened with a knife by a man who fled along with two other people.

After a short search assisted by the dog squad and PolAir 1, a 17-year-old Meadowbrook man was taken into custody by police.

The 17-year-old man has been charged with armed robbery, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, going armed so as to cause fear and attempted armed robbery.

He is due to appear in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Monday.
