Teen charged with rape, murder after young woman’s body found in park

A teenager has been charged over the death of a woman, whose body was found in a park at Carlton North.

Emergency services were called to a field between Royal Parade and Princes Park Drive around 3am yesterday after the woman’s body was discovered by a passer-by.

Paramedics desperately worked to save the woman but she was not able to be revived.

The woman is yet to be formally identified but is believed to be aged in her 20s.

Following investigations, Homicide Squad detectives arrested a 19-year-old man last night.

He has since been charged with one count of rape and one count of murder and is due to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court this morning.
