He was flown to hospital in a critical condition but sadly could not be saved and died on Tuesday, police said.

The exact circumstances surrounding the shooting are yet to be determined. The teen’s mates are assisting police.

The forest is described by locals as a popular hunting spot, but the teen is not thought to have been hunting.

Unconfirmed reports suggest the teen was hit in the head by a stray bullet which had ricocheted off an object.

Police say they are not looking for any suspects at this time.
