Teen dies in Gold Coast hospital after serious crash near Yamba
A young woman has died in hospital on the Gold Coast after suffering serious injuries in a horror crash in northern NSW.
Emergency crews were called to Yamba Road at Palmers Island, near Yamba, around 1.20pm yesterday following reports a Mazda Sedan and a Toyota RAV 4 had collided
Upon arrival, they found the driver of the Mazda, a 19-year-old woman, trapped in the vehicle.
The young woman was treated at the scene by a doctor who stopped to render assistance before she was freed from the car and airlifted to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.
Police confirmed in a statement a short time ago that, sadly, the woman died from her injuries about 6.30am this morning.
The driver of the other car, a 79-year-old woman, managed to escape uninjured.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are underway.
