Teen drowns in beach tragedy

A TEENAGER has died while body boarding at a beach in New South Wales.

The 18-year-old was pulled from the surf unconscious at Pinny Beach at Lake Macquarie just after 10am on Sunday.

Despite desperate attempts to revive the teen, however, he could not be saved.

NSW Police confirmed the 18-year-old was pronounced dead on the beach.

It’s understood the boy was body boarding when tragedy struck.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and will prepare a report for the Coroner.
