Teen girl charged over handbag grabs on the Gold Coast
A teenage girl has been charged over two hand bag grab attempts in Surfers Paradise.
The 16-year-old allegedly tried to steal handbags from people walking down the Gold Coast highway on Friday July 5.
Police say she approached a pair of women – aged in their 40s – in a dark grey Kia Cerato, before dashing out and trying to grab their bags.
Another person tried to intervene, and after a struggle, the young woman fled empty handed.
A short time later, the same woman tried again with a woman walking along Thomas Drive.
This time she was able to grab the bag and flee back to the car, which was being driven by a young man.
The victim sustained scrapes on her knees as a result.
The 16-year-old girl from Logan Reserve has been charged with one count of robbery, one count of attempted robbery, two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and one count of fraud.
She will be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.
Investigations are continuing.
