Teen girl killed after family car flips while trying to avoid collision with van

A TEENAGE girl has died after she was ejected from the family car in a horror crash on the NSW Mid North Coast.

The accident happened at Herons Creek, near Port Macquarie, shortly after 11am on Thursday.

Police said the family of seven was travelling up the coast along the Pacific Highway when tragedy struck.

The family’s vehicle rolled several times after the driver swerved to avoid a van pulling onto the highway.

A 16-year-old girl was ejected from the vehicle on impact and sadly died at the scene.

The girl’s mother was driving suffered serious head injuries and was taken to John Hunter Hospital for treatment.

The remaining members of the family were taken to both John Hunter and Port Macquarie Hospitals.

Police say their injuries are not considered life-threatening.

The driver of the van was taken to Port Macquarie Base Hospital for mandatory drug and alcohol testing.

The crash site was declared a crime scene and was this afternoon examined by the Crash Investigation Unit.
