Hundreds of shoppers were forced flee a packed mall in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Christmas Eve when a teenage gunman allegedly opened fire.

It’s understood an 18-year-old local rapper and father-to-be fired a number of shots towards a rival group inside the Northlake Mall on Thursday, sending shoppers running for their lives.

The armed teen then reportedly aimed his weapon at an off-duty police officer who had raced to the scene after hearing the gunfire.

With his service weapon drawn, the off-duty officer responded immediately by shooting the gunman.

Officials say at least two people were injured in a crush of shoppers trying to flee the scene.
