Teen killed, another critically injured after car hits tree on Sunshine Coast

A 17-YEAR-OLD girl has died and a teenage boy is fighting for his life in hospital following a horror crash on the Sunshine Coast.

It happened where Dulong meets Perwillowen, 7km west of Nambour, around 11.30pm on Tuesday.

The boy and girl, aged just 17, both sustained life-threatening injuries in the crash.

Paramedics tried desperately to keep the girl alive at the scene, but sadly she could not be saved.

Police confirmed the 17-year-old died in the back of the ambulance on the way to hospital.

Emergency services had to cut the Hyundai apart to free the critically injured driver.

He was rushed by ambulance to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a critical condition before being airlifted to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.
