Teen rugby player airlifted to Brisbane hospital with suspected spinal injury

A TEENAGE boy has been airlifted to hospital after suffering a suspected spinal injury in a game of rugby in Queensland’s Central Highlands region.

The 17-year-old was injured in a tackle during a match at Emerald on Friday night.

He was transported by ambulance to the local hospital where doctors made the decision to airlift him to Brisbane after assessing his injuries.

The teen was transported to Emerald Airport on Saturday morning from where he was flown by the LifeFlight Air Ambulance Jet to Brisbane Airport.

He was then transported in a stable condition by ambulance to the Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital where he remains this afternoon.
