Teen stabbed in face outside Melbourne fast food restaurant

A man has been charged with stabbing a teenager in the face during a fight in the heart of Melbourne.

Police say the pair became embroiled in an altercation outside a fast food restaurant on Swanston Street, near the corner of Flinders Street, at around 12.35am on Sunday.

During the melee, a 19-year-old male from Sebastopol, near Ballarat, was slashed across the face with a knife.

He was treated by paramedics at the scene before transported in a stable condition to St Vincent’s Hospital.

Police later arrested a 29-year-old man of no fixed place of address near the Yarra River.

He has since been charged with intentionally cause serious injury and will face court today.

Police believe a large number of people present at the time of the incident may have filmed the altercation on their phones.

Investigators are appealing for those witnesses to come forward.
