Teenage girl killed in suspected Sydney street race

A 17-year-old girl has died and another teenager has been injured in a suspected street race in Sydney overnight.

Emergency crews were called to the intersection of Belloc Close and Vidal Street around 7.50pm on Monday and found a crashed maroon Toyota Corolla.

A 17-year-old girl, who police believe to be the driver, was found dead inside the car.

A male and female, who were passengers in the vehicle, have been spoken to by police, and the male was later taken to hospital suffering minor injuries.

A crime scene has been established while further investigations are carried out.

It’s believed the Toyota may have been travelling with a Black Mazda 3, being driven by a 19-year-old woman, with two passengers aged 15 and 16.

The driver and the occupants of the Mazda have been spoken to by police and inquiries are continuing.

Officers will continue their appeal for witnesses to the crash, or the events leading up to the crash.

Early indications are that the incident may not have been street racing related however a number of avenues of inquiries are being investigated to determine the circumstances surrounding how the crash occurred.

No charges have been laid at this stage.
