Teenage P-platers charged with illegal street racing

TWO teenage P-platers have lost their licence and been charged after they were allegedly caught street racing in Sydney’s West.

Police were patrolling the Great Western Highway at Wentworthville around 9.30pm when they spotted a Honda Civic and Holden ute stopped at Jones Street.

The vehicles then allegedly took off and started racing each other.

Police said the vehicles reached speeds of more than 125km in an 80 zone.

The teenage drivers were stopped by police, who immediately suspended their licences.

The 17-year-old from Toongabbie was issued a field court attendance for illegal street racing, exceeding speed limit over 30km/h, and driving a high-performance vehicle.

The older boy from Merrylands was issued with a notice for illegal street racing and exceed speed limit over 30km/h.

Police said he was also issued with a number plate confiscation notice for three months.

Both teens are due to appear in Parramatta Local Court next month.
