Teenage rugby player airlifted to hospital with suspected spinal injuries

A 14-YEAR-OLD boy has been airlifted to hospital with suspected spinal injuries after he was hurt while playing rugby on the NSW Central Coast.

The young player suffered suspected spinal injuries in a tackle during a game at a sports oval in Berkeley Vale shortly after midday on Thursday.

He was assessed by Ambulance Paramedics at the scene before a decision was made to airlift the boy to hospital.

CareFlight’s rapid response rescue chopper was deployed to the scene, where its specialist doctor and critical care paramedic provided further treatment on the scene before carefully transferring the boy into the helicopter.

Accompanied by his mother, the 14-year-old was flown to Westmead’s Children’s Hospital for further tests.
