Teens charged over alleged joy ride in stolen car

Two teenagers have been charged over a joyride that sparked a Police pursuit down the Toowoomba range.

It’s alleged the pair of 16-year-olds stole a Rav4 sedan from a Mount Lofty home on just before midnight on Saturday.

A short time later, police found the vehicle being driven near Campbell Street and then eastbound down the steep range.

“At about 12.12am, police successfully deployed a tyre deflation device against the vehicle which proceeded onto Gunn Street at Helidon where it came to a stop,” Police explained in a statement.

“The driver of the vehicle allegedly fled the scene on foot into bushland while the male passenger was arrested at the scene.”

“The driver was located and arrested a short time later.”

The boys, both aged 16-years-old, have been charged and investigations are continuing.
