Tennis star stabbed in burglary gone wrong
Czech Republican tennis star and double Wimbledon winner Petra Kvitova is lucky to be alive, after she was attacked in her apartment by a knife wielding intruder.
In what is believed to be a robbery gone wrong, the violent incident occurred in Kvitova’s apartment in the Czech Republic city of Prostejov.
The 26-year-old suffered stab wounds to her left, and racket-hand and will potentially put her participation in the Australian Open in doubt.
Kvitova withdrew from next week’s Hopman Cup event in Perth to recover from a foot injury, just hours before the attack.
Local police say the attacker, who escaped from the scene, is male and around 35 years old.
