Next month, the internationally acclaimed Adelaide theatre company, Slingsby, will bring the charming and majestic production of Oscar Wilde’s iconic story – The Young King – to HOTA, Home of the Arts.
This rendition of Oscar Wilde’s 1891 fairy tale tells the story of a naïve boy raised by goatherds who is discovered to be heir to the kingdom. Treasures and privileges are laid at his feet, but at what cost to others?
CEO of HOTA, Criena Gehrke, said the production will captivate audiences with its challenging yet engaging storytelling.

“I believe young audiences deserve the same quality, depth and rigour that adult audiences demand,” she said.
“Slingsby are highly acclaimed and continually deliver incredible performances. You can expect an incredibly immersive experience from the moment you step into the building.”
Slingsby is currently touring the production across six states and seventeen cities and will perform seventy shows of The Young King around Australia, with its debut on the Gold Coast.
“Whilst we’ve been delighted to tour extensively around the world over the past decade, nothing delights us more than touring this internationally proven show to regional audiences around Australia,” said Artistic Director of Slingsby, Andy Packer.
Members of the cast and crew will also be hosting a Q&A session in the theatre auditorium as a special treat for audiences following the show.
The Young King will take place at HOTA on Friday 2nd August, 2019 at 10.30am and 2pm, and Saturday 3rd August, 2019 at 10.30am. For more information, visit hota.com.au/theatre/the-young-king/.
