Thieves smash through Gold Coast shopping centre in early morning break-in

UPDATE @ 11.00 AM | Three teenagers have been arrested over a number of robberies on the northern Gold Coast this morning.

Hope Island Marketplace was broken into shortly before 5.00 am, with CCTV footage showing a group of kids trying to break into the bottle shop.

They’re believed to have taken around a dozen bottles of spirits before getting away in a car.


Police also said a chemist in Upper Coomera was broken into shortly before.

“Around 4.45 am the front glass doors to the premises were smashed and three offenders rummaged through the store.  Unknown if any items were stolen at this stage,” a police spokesperson told myGC.

Police on patrol have located three youths in Mathewson Street at Upper Coomera later this morning.

Two 16-year-olds and a 14-year-old remain in custody as investigations continue.

Charges are yet to be laid.

EARLIER @ 8.30 AM | Police are investigating after thieves smashed their way into a popular Gold Coast shopping centre early this morning.

Locals report that the Hope Island Marketplace was broken into sometime around 5.00 am.

It’s understood a trolley may have been used to smash through the doors, while a car was spotted driving erratically away from the scene a short time later.

A bottle shop within the shopping centre was broken into.

Queensland Police are yet to release more information, but investigators are on scene.
