Thousands of homes on the northern Gold Coast remain without power this morning after wild storms lashed the area last night.
A severe storm rolled in around 4.00 pm, passing over the southeast relatively quickly, but creating a fair bit of damage.
Energex reports that at least 140,000 lightning strikes were recorded around the southeast as a result of the storms.

While fallen trees brought down over 50 power lines and big hail caused a bit of damage as well.
Repair works have been taking place overnight but some 4,000 homes remain without power across the northern Gold Coast and Logan areas.
2,290 homes in Ormeau and Ormeau Hills are still in the dark this morning.
At the peak of storm activity last night, over 8,000 homes were without power.
Energex is still working to repair damage and is asking for Queenslanders to report any fallen power lines ASAP to 13 19 62.
