Paramedics attended and assessed the occupants of all vehicles at the scene.

One person was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital in an ambulance.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesperson said the male patient was transported in a stable condition.

The motorway was reduced to just two southbound lanes while crews worked to clear the wrecked cars.

Heavy delays are still being experienced through the area, with southbound traffic backed up for at least 4km.
