‘Many injured’ after birthday bash erupts into brawl outside NSW hotel

A MAN has suffered a broken jaw and several others have been injured after a birthday bash erupted into a wild brawl outside a hotel in Newcastle.

Police said a group of people had gathered for a birthday party at the Sandgate Road hotel on Saturday night.

Celebrations turned ugly around 11:30pm when two men became involved in a heated argument inside the hotel and were escorted from the premises by staff.

A group of men followed the pair outside where up to 20 men then became embroiled in a brawl on the street.

Police said many people suffered injuries in the fight, ranging from minor lacerations to a possible broken jaw.

Three people were transported to John Hunter Hospital with a variety of injuries.

An 18-year-old man was arrested at the scene. He was taken to Newcastle Police Station and charged with affray and behaving in an offensive manner.

He has been granted conditional bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court on 19 January.

Investigations into the incident are continuing, with police still working to identify several other brawlers.

Investigators have urged anyone with information about the incident to contact police immediately.
