Three hour siege ends with man in custody

AN alleged armed man who held police at bay while barricaded inside a Mermaid Waters home for three hours is in police custody.
Witnesses told Gold Coast Weather & News Together that the man surrendered to heavily-armed officers around 9.45pm.
Police were first called to the Christina Court home around 6.30pm amid reports a man was inside, armed with a gun.
Dozens of police, including tactical officers, the dog squad and helicopter, surrounded the home and locked-down the area.
Duet Drive from Sunshine Boulevard was closed to the public while police negotiated a peaceful resolution.
No one was injured during the three-hour standoff.

EARLIER: POLICE have locked down part of Mermaid Waters tonight as they negotiate with an alleged armed man.
Scores of police surrounded the Christina Court home around 6.30pm, with reports that an agitated man had barricaded himself inside.
He is believed to be armed with a firearm.
One Christina Court resident told Gold Coast Weather & News Together that she was told to stay inside and lock her doors.
“All the police are hidden all over my street and asking everyone who walks outside to go inside and lock their doors,” she said.
Matthew Howard from Ten Eyewitness News is on scene and reports that police have cordoned off the area as they attempt to negotiate with the man using a telephone.
It remains unclear what sparked the stand-off.
