EARLIER: POLICE have locked down part of Mermaid Waters tonight as they negotiate with an alleged armed man.

Scores of police surrounded the Christina Court home around 6.30pm, with reports that an agitated man had barricaded himself inside.

He is believed to be armed with a firearm.

One Christina Court resident told Gold Coast Weather & News Together that she was told to stay inside and lock her doors.

“All the police are hidden all over my street and asking everyone who walks outside to go inside and lock their doors,” she said.

At one point during the first hour, police were seen pointing their guns towards the property, sheltering behind their cars and trees.

Matthew Howard from Ten Eyewitness News is on scene and reports that police have cordoned off the area as they attempt to negotiate with the man using a telephone.

It remains unclear what sparked the stand-off.
