Three people on the run after smash and grab at Gold Coast shopping centre

UPDATE @ 9.20AM | A security guard has sustained injuries after smash and grab incident in Helensvale early this morning.

The 40-year-old was confronted by three offenders at the Westfield Helensvale around 4.30am, after they’d smashed their way through to the Prouds Jewellers store.

They were in the process of stealing a substantial amount of jewellery, when the security guard tried to stop them.


One was holding a large ice pick style implement, which they used to threaten the guard before getting away.

The security guard sustained a minor injury to his hand when the offenders drove off.

Their dark coloured car was last seen travelling east along Brisbane Road.

Investigations are continuing.

EARLIER @ 7.00AM | Police are hunting three offenders, after a smash and grab at a popular shopping centre on the northern Gold Coast.

A dark coloured sedan was used to ram through the entry of Westfield Helensvale around 4.30am, before it then drove through the centre to the Prouds jewellery shop.

The group were able to gain access, before grabbing a ‘substantial’ amount of jewellery and fleeing.

It’s understood the same car was driven out of the centre, and was last seen travelling east along Brisbane Road.

Police are now on scene, with crime tape cordoning off the centre.

They’re looking through CCTV footage as well.

Investigations are continuing.

It follows a similar incident that happened in Upper Coomera yesterday morning, where thieve broke into a Coles shopping centre.
