Multiple people shot after gunman opens fire at concert in New York

UPDATE: One person is believed to have been shot dead and several others have wounded after a gunman opened fire at a concert in New York City.

The shooting unfolded at a concert being held at the Irving Plaza, near Manhattan’s Union Square, at around 10.15pm on Wednesday local time (12:15 Thursday AEST).

Early reports suggest four people have been shot, one of whom is reported to have died at the scene.

Three other people, believed to be two men and one woman, are being treated for gunshot wounds.

One of the victims is reported to be in a critical condition.

Footage uploaded to social media depicts to show the moment concertgoers scrambled for safety after the volley of shots rang out. See the video below.

U.S. rapper and hip hop artist T.I was scheduled to perform at the concert which, according to Fox News, had attracted a crowd of up to 1000 people.

It’s understood the shooter remains at large.

Scores of police and paramedics are on the scene.
