Thunderstorm threat remains on the Gold Coast

Another thunderstorm is threatening to build on the Gold Coast on Sunday, after Saturday’s wild weather closed all the beaches.

The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting that storms could make an appearance between now and Wednesday.

Hail stones pummelled Boonah, while thousands lost power.  Close to 3,500 are still waiting to have supply re-connected in Logan.  Strong winds are being blamed for bringing down powerlines in parts.

One Logan couple filmed the storm on their phone, when they captured a lightning strike that was too close for comfort.

A teenager holding a metal door at a home on the Darling Downs was hit by a lightning bolt – he is in hospital with serious burns.

It was hot too, Birdsville nudged 46 degrees on Saturday and should see a top of 42 on Sunday.
