The Gold Coast Suns have struggled without their leaders and lost more players through injury as their AFL finals chances were dashed by Richmond.
Gary Ablett was a late scratching from the side ahead of Saturday night’s clash. While Steven May also had to watch from the stands of Metricon Stadium.
The injured veterans watched as Ben Ainsworth, Alex Sexton and Callum Ah Chee joined the casualty list and the side went down 14.14 (98)-10.5 (65).

The 33-point defeat all but extinguishes the Suns chances of reaching the AFL finals.
Coach Rodney Eade is confident Ablett will return from injury for the game against Fremantle in Perth next week.
Meantime, Police have confirmed they were called to a post-match incident outside the stadium.
Three men were assaulted in the brawl at the taxi rank.
One witness has told myGC that “kids were petrified” and a woman and child were also hit as the scuffle spilled into the crowd that was waiting to get home.
“It took three men to hold [down one] guy, who [had been] knocked out [earlier],” the witness said.
“At least 5 police vehicles and motorbikes eventually turned up [after 15 minutes] and began a search.”
Police say the man was found nearby but charges have not been laid.
