Tokyo visitor hospitalised on the Tweed, drugs allegedly found during surgery

Police are waiting to speak with a man who remains in the Tweed Hospital in an induced coma.

They say the 50-year-old arrived on a flight from Tokyo last Thursday, but got sick and was taken to the hospital on Monday afternoon.

The man had surgery and remains in a serious condition.


Police allege that more than 100 grams of a prohibited drug, suspected to be cocaine, was recovered during the procedure.

Investigators hope to speak with the man once he is deemed well enough.
