Tomic advances, Stosur out at Rogers Cup

Bernard Tomic has stormed into the third round of the Rogers Cup in Toronto after beating local favourite Steven Diez on Wednesday.

Tomic beat the Canadian 6-3 7-6 (7-4) in the pair’s first ever meeting, in what will be a boost for the Gold Coast product ahead of next month’s US Open.

He now takes on big-serving South African Kevin Anderson for a place in the quarter-finals.

The news wasn’t so good for fellow Gold Coaster Sam Stosur, who was bundled out of the tournament.

Stosur struggled with her serve, sending down nine double faults in the 7-6 (7-1) 6-3 loss.
