Tomic lives to see another day at Wimbledon

Bernard Tomic has survived a rain delay to return to the court and beat Spain’s Fernando Verdasco at Wimbledon.

The Gold Coaster had to walk away from his game against Verdasco on Monday when they were locked at two sets apiece.

But when the match resumed in wintery and drizzly conditions Tomic went on to win 4-6 6-3 6-3 3-6 6-4 in two hours and 45 minutes.

Lleyton Hewitt and Tomic’s father and coach John watched from the stands.

Hewitt will compete at the All England Club this week after saying yes to pairing with Jordan Thompson in the doubles.

The Davis Cup mentor retired after the Australian Open in January but later teamed up with Sam Groth at the Davis Cup against the USA in March.
