Tomic sent packing in Shanghai opener
BERNARD Tomic has been sent packing from the Shanghai Masters by American Jack Sock.
Sock came back from 0-3 down in the final set to beat the Gold Coast product 7-6(4) 6-7(4) 6-4 in their first round clash overnight.
Tomic had 15 aces in the losing effort.
Meanwhile, US Open champion Marin Cilic was also eliminated in the first round, losing to Ivo Karlovic 7-5 2-6 7-6(2).
Top-ranked Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Murray head the field at the tournament, which features the top 10 players in the rankings.
Djokovic, Federer and Nadal have first-round byes; Murray plays Russian qualifier Teymuraz Gabashvili in his opening match on Tuesday.
