Tomic toughs out French Open qualifier

Bernard Tomic is one win away from playing in a major tournament, after tumultuous six months.

The Gold Coaster has stormed into the final round of the French Open qualifying tournament in Paris.

He’s shocked, beating England’s Jay Clarke and only needs to beat Portugal’s Goncalo Oliveria to qualify for Roland Garros.

Tomic showed uncharacteristic fight during the match against Clarke.

He fought back from early break points to claw ahead and in the first set in under an hour.

Many experts had thought Tomic would bundle out of the competition in the early rounds.

Tomic failed to qualify for the Australian Open this year and has plunged outside of the world’s top 200 ranking.
