Tomic’s run of first round losses continues in Monte Carlo

Bernard Tomic has continued his losing streak after being bundled out of the Monte Carlo Masters in the opening round.

The Gold Coaster went down to Argentine clay-court specialist Diego Schwartzman 6-1 7-6 (7-3).

Tomic, who has slipped to No.43 in the world from a high of 17 last year, has now suffered five first round losses in the first fourth months of the year.

It appears clay is definitely n ot a surface that suits Tomic’s playing style. He has only won just three of his 11 matches on clay in the last two years.

His best chance of a rankings boost will come during the grass court season where he typically performs well.
