Toowoomba Shopping Centre declared safe following discovery of suspicious device

UPDATE: An emergent situation declared under the provisions of the Public Safety Preservation Act in Wilsonton Heights this morning has since been revoked.

Around 5.20am police responded to reports of what appeared to be a suspicious device outside a shopping complex at the intersection of Tor and Hogg streets.

Specialist police attended the scene, declared the item non suspicious and rendered the area safe around 9.45am.

People in the area have since been able to return to their homes and businesses after they were evacuated as a precaution earlier this morning. Roads have also since reopened.

EARLIER: TOOWOOMBA Police have declared an emergency situation in Wilsonton Heights this morning after a suspicious device was found outside a shopping centre.

Police were called to the shopping complex at the intersection of Tor and Hogg streets around 5.20am following the discovery.

Tor Street, Hogg Street, Holberton Street and High Court Drive are in lockdown as a result.

Businesses and residences in the nearby vicinity are currently being evacuated and road closures are in place around the cordoned area.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area.

Specialist police are currently attending the scene to assess the situation.
