A TOURIST has almost drowned after he suddenly stopped breathing while swimming at Main Beach this afternoon.
Quick thinking lifeguards spotted the 51-year-old man floating face down between the flags at around 1.20pm and immediately dragged his motionless body ashore.
Lifeguards administered CPR for roughly 15 minutes before his heart began beating once again.

He was rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious condition.
It is understood the man’s tour group squeezed in a quick stop at the beach before heading to the Gold Coast Airport.
