UPDATE: The body of an Irish tourist who fell off a houseboat and into the Murray River near the Victorian border overnight has been found.

The man, who police say is a 25-year-old tourist from Ireland, was reportedly staying on the boat with friends when around 1.40am he fell off the top deck and into the water.

Police, Victorian CFA and SES volunteers, assisted by ten private vessels, spent today searching the river for his body after it was feared he’d struck his head and drowned.

Sadly, those fears were realised this afternoon when his body was recovered from the water near where he fell.
