Tourist stabbed multiple times on the Gold Coast

Five people remain on the run, after a violent stabbing at a Gold Coast holiday hot-spot left a tourist with serious injuries.

Police say the 36-year-old man from Western Australian had met up with the group of four men and a woman, on the Esplanade at Surfers Paradise around 7pm on Thursday.

They then walked through the Cavill Avenue Mall and down to Leonard Avenue, where a verbal argument began.

It escalated into a physical fight with the man stabbed three times, in his chest and abdomen, and left calling for help on Watson Esplanade.

Members of the public rushed to his aid and called emergency services.

The man was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital in a serious condition.

Police searched the areas, cordoning off nearby streets and using the Polair helicopter to try and track down the attackers, however the group was not located.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has any information which could assist with this investigation is asked to contact Police.
