Traffic chaos on M1 as Brisbane drivers flock to the Gold Coast

Motorists are being urged to be patient if travelling southbound on the Pacific Motorway this afternoon, with Brisbane’s long weekend causing traffic mayhem.

The Pacific Motorway is at a crawl all the way from Springwood to Helensvale as thousands of Brisbane residents make their way to the Gold Coast for their postponed Ekka long weekend.

At this stage, drivers travelling along the stretch are being warned to brace for delays of around 55 minutes.

A southbound accident just past Exit 60 at Helensvale is also adding to the congestion, following an earlier prang at Beenleigh.

Drivers are being urged to keep their cool and allow for extra travel time, with delays likely to be experienced for the next few hours.
