TRAFFIC | Long delays ahead of long weekend

The M1 between the Gold Coast and Brisbane is virtually a car park as people hit the road ahead of the Labour Day long weekend.

As at 5pm Friday, traffic is bumper-to-bumper southbound from Eight Mile Plains in Brisbane’s south, to Gaven.

Three separate accidents, in the Ormeau area, are contributing to the congestion.

Hi Rachel, I have some questions.

I spent an hour and a half tonight getting from one end of the Gold Coast to the other.

Is traffic congestion considered a significant problem?
Who is responsible for traffic management?

How good or bad is the region’s traffic management compared to other places in the world?
Are there any short medium or long term traffic management plans in place?
