TRAFFIC: Slow trip home for Gold Coasters

There are plenty of delays on Gold Coast roads this afternoon, leading to a slow run home.

The southbound run on the M1 is down to a snail’s pace from Coomera to Gaven.

While there is the usual congestion from Mudgeeraba to Palm Beach.

There are no reports of accidents on the Motorway at this stage.

Earlier this afternoon four people, aged in their 50s and 60s, were taken to hospital following a single car crash at Ormeau.

The vehicle hit a barrier just before 1pm, blocking two lanes.

It’s believed one person was in a serious condition.

On the major local roads, things aren’t much better, thanks to roadwork.

It’s crawling along Bundall Road into Bermuda Street southbound to Rudd Street.

The roundabout connecting Ross Street, Currumburra Road and Ashmore Road was removed on Tuesday night and the new traffic signals switched on.

Not all lanes are open and the new signals are being operated with fixed timings which have done little to ease the congestion.

The underground signal loop system is expected to be switched on once the final asphalt layer and line marking is in place, with works expected on that next week.

The project managers say delays through the intersection are still expected until work wraps up in July 2016.
