Traffic at a standstill following dramatic M1 arrest

UPDATE @ 2.10pm: LENGTHY delays are still being experienced southbound on the Pacific Motorway this afternoon following a dramatic arrest.

Just after midday, a white Holden sedan was spotted driving dangerously at high speeds on the M1, forcing other vehicles off the road.

Luckily, the speeding car came to an abrupt stop after running out of petrol at Gaven.

When police attempted to arrest the driver, who was attempting to run from the scene, he allegedly assaulted two officers and attempted to steal a police vehicle before he was apprehended.

The man, aged in his mid 30s, remains in police custody after being taken to Gold Coast University Hospital for treatment of a head injury.

Investigations are ongoing.

EARLIER @ 12.30pm: Traffic is at a standstill southbound on the Pacific Motorway following a dramatic single vehicle crash.

The accident occurred at Gaven between exit 66 and 69 just after 12.15pm.

Witnesses have told myGC that after the crash, a man allegedly got out of the car and took off on foot down the M1.

Emergency services including several police and ambulance crews are at the scene.

A man is currently being treated for a head injury.

Major delays are being experienced with at least one lane blocked. Motorists have been advised to avoid the area.
