Traffic woes for Gold Coast as long weekend wraps up
Anyone using the roads today has no doubt already noticed the amount of cars trying to get around.
With the school holidays and a long weekend all wrapping up together, we’re being warned of serious delays throughout the day.
For M1 commuters, delays started early, with a breakdown northbound through Palm Beach around 10.00am.
That’s forced northbound traffic to a standstill, pushing delays back over the border.
Surrounding roads are also clogged with motorists trying to avoid the stretch.
Southbound on the M1 still isn’t looking too bad, though conditions are expected to worsen throughout the afternoon.
State Opposition Leader Deb Frecklington says today could be a frustrating time on the road for thousands of Queensland families who make their way home.
“I urge everyone to take care on the roads and drive responsibly today. Our major roads can resemble a car park on days like today,” Ms Frecklington said.
The RACQ has warned the M1 will be the busiest between 11.00am and 3.00pm.
