A frantic rescue operation is underway in Italy after two passenger trains collided at speed in the country’s south.
The death toll continues to rise, with at least 25 confirmed dead, while dozens more suffered serious injuries when three carriages were ripped apart on impact.

The two trains slammed head on while travelling a stretch of track linking the small towns of Corato and Andria.
It’s not known how the shocking accident could have occurred, with an investigation expected to be launched.
It is not yet known if any Australians were on board.
