Trams brought to a halt after bike and bus collide in Surfers

7PM UPDATE: FOR the first time since its opening just five days ago, the Gold Coast light rail was tonight brought to a standstill after bus and motorbike collided on tram lines in Surfers Paradise.

Police are investigating the crash which happened at the intersection of Surfers Paradise Blvd and Pandanus Ave just before 6pm.

The incident, which is thought to have left the motorcyclist with serious injuries, is still causing delays to road and tram traffic.

First reports suggest that the motorbike was thrown onto light rail tracks after it was struck by the bus.

Scores of tram passengers have been stranded at light rail stations for around an hour.

Motorists are advised to plan their route accordingly and consider using Ferny Ave or The Esplanade while delays clear.

Police are calling on any witnesses who can assist police with their investigation to come forward.

It’s the first traffic incident to have caused significant interruptions to the light rail schedule since it’s opening just last Sunday.
