Trio ditch car at Gold Coast intersection, leaving behind guns, drugs, ammo

POLICE have found a stockpile of guns, drugs, stolen property, and ammunition in a car on the Gold Coast.

It was just before 1am on Sunday when officers from the Railway Squad spotted the vehicle parked at the intersection of Zane Street and Ashmore Road in Molendinar.

As officers went to approach the car, three men allegedly jumped out of it and fled the scene, leaving behind two firearms, ammunition, drugs and stolen property.

Two of the men, aged 31 and 28, were arrested and taken into custody following a short foot chase.

The older man has been charged with a dozen offences, including authority required to possess explosives and unlawful possession of weapons, unlawful use of motor vehicle, possession of knife in a public place, possess tainted property, possess utensils and possess dangerous drugs.

The younger has been charged with three counts of possess dangerous drugs, and one count each of possession of utensil and possession of knife in a public place.

Both men have been remanded in custody and are due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on July 10.

The third man seen running from the vehicle remains at large.
