A man has been killed after a truck allegedly ploughed into his broken-down van on the side of the road in Sydney’s west overnight.
The horror accident happened at the intersection of the Cumberland Highway and Sturt Street in Smithfield around 8.30pm.
“Police have been told the driver of the van was standing in front of his vehicle, which was broken-down on the side of the road, when it was struck by the truck, which impacted the man,” Qld Police said.

The truck continued on and hit another car before coming to a stop.
The driver of the van, a 32-year-old man, died instantly at the scene, while his 19-year-old passenger was hospitalised in a stable condition.
The 42-year-old truck driver managed to escape uninjured, however, he was taken to Westmead Hospital for mandatory testing.
Thankfully the driver and two passengers of the car, that was also hit by the truck, were uninjured.
Following investigations into the crash, the truck driver was arrested at Granville Police Station about 1.20am this morning and charged with dangerous driving occasioning death and negligent driving occasioning death.
He was refused bail to appear before Fairfield Local Court today.
